"Not" vacation in Honduras

Three of my closest friends from college and I thought that a 10 day holiday in Honduras would be a perfect way to renew our friendships and take a much needed break in a transitional time in our lives. We managed to have a fun trip, but vacation and relaxation are not good words to describe it. This was the kind of trip we should write a book about. You name it and we probably got close to it. There were forgotten passports, run-ins with the police, sunburns, violent illnesses, and yes, even emergency surgeries. I arrived back in the USA a few days ago and felt like I needed to recover from our so called vacation.

Amidst all the uproar we did have some more relaxing or adventurous moments. One day was spent on a boat touring a string of Islands and snorkeling in clear waters following tropical schools of fish.

In the middle of the trip we rowed down a canal in the morning and visited a waterfall in the afternoon. After swimming above the waterfall we decided to take a canopy tour that included a series of zip lines, one of which went over the waterfall.

We visited quaint towns and toured big cities and of course found our way through tourist markets and bartered for jewelry and souvenirs.

One of the many highlights was having the chance to see the school where my college roommate has taught since we graduated . We stayed at her house, met her friends and went to her church, gaining a perspective on her life that we couldn't grasp from far away.
We left with a plethora of pictures, a string of stories that can make even seasoned travelers eyes widen, strengthened friendships, and in need of rest.
